Raiders, Coach Pierce Looking to 'Consistently' Beat KC

The Las Vegas Raiders are able to say they beat the reigning Super Bowl champions once last season, but they need to make it a habit to take their place at the top of the AFC West.

The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time since 2020 last season.

As great as the victory felt among Raider Nation, it's an accomplishment Las Vegas will need to continue to do if it hopes to find its way back to the No. 1 spot in the AFC West.

"That's the key word: consistently," Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce said at the NFL Combine last Wednesday, Feb. 28. "You could do it one time, you could be a one-hit wonder. I know that's what everybody expects us to do, but we're expecting to compete and try to build a team and a staff and a roster to do that.

"And again, it's going to start with -- to be honest -- it's got to start with your defense because you've got to deal with the quarterback and the offensive coordinator and the head coach, who are very good, the best of the best, man. Going to go down as probably the gold jackets, let's call a spade a spade.

"And how close are we? I don't have that answer today. Once the roster gets built and we see the staff work together, I think that's going to be the critical part of it.

"I think our mindset is there, though. I think we believe we can compete with them. We just got to go out there and do it."

The Chiefs have won the AFC West for eight straight seasons and are not showing signs of letting up. But Pierce gave Raider Nation hope last season, and he will do everything he can to knock off the back-to-back Super Bowl champions in the future.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
