Rams Coach Sean McVay Reveals Stetson Bennett Goals vs. Raiders in Preseason

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay outlined what he wants to see from rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett in his second preseason game.

Following rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett’s professional debut during last week’s preseason defeat to the cross-town Chargers, Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay expressed pleasure in what he saw from both a traits and production standpoint.

Bennett finished an impressive 17 of 29 for 191 yards and a touchdown, with McVay pointing out his athleticism while calling the two-time NCAA National Champion did a “nice job.”

Now, Bennett is facing a chance at an encore, as the Rams are set to host the Las Vegas Raiders at 5 p.m. PST on Saturday night inside SoFi Stadium.

Fresh off a pair of beneficial joint practices earlier this week, Bennett and the Rams have a strong opportunity to build off last week’s loss - but what does McVay want to see?

Here’s what Los Angeles’ Super Bowl-winning coach said …

“Consistency, good decision making, playing within the timing and rhythm of the play,” McVay said. “He knows he made some really good plays (against the Chargers) and then he also had some plays that he kind of got away with and so we want to just see the consistent decision making a little bit higher and especially in some of those scoring situations and I think you'll see that reflected.”

Bennett has enjoyed a successful summer since being drafted by the Rams in the fourth round of April’s draft, drawing steady praise around the building - the latest of which came from starting signal caller Matthew Stafford, who dubbed his fellow Georgia Bulldog a “really talented kid” who “throws it great.”

Now, the aim for Bennett becomes turning the traits that have excited so many coaches and teammates around him into a more consistent showing against the Raiders … and with McVay’s comments, it’s clear what Bennett has to show to do exactly that.
