Ravens Describe 'Dangerous' New Offense Under Todd Monken

With new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, the Baltimore Ravens are expecting to find success with their new and improved offense.

How would the Baltimore Ravens describe their new offense under coordinator Todd Monken? 'Scary' and 'dangerous' have been the most recent descriptions so far of Monken's new system that is being implemented. Dangerous was the word that tight end Mark Andrews used when speaking about it.

“I think it’s going to be a dangerous offense,” Andrews said, according to ESPN.

Based on Monken's history as a coordinator, an educated guess would tell you to expect the Ravens to be a more modern offense that will lean on the passing game. But don't fret; if you are still a fan of running the football, it will surely be incorporated into the Ravens' offense.

Monken showed in his three seasons at the University of Georgia that he can call games and win, whether it means being dominant through the air or on the ground. At the end of the day, Monken, like every good coordinator, will do what works and less of what doesn't.

The offseason additions of playmakers Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, and rookie Zay Flowers certainly put the Ravens in a much better position to boast a successful passing game. In recent years, the "lack of weapons" has been a common saying about the Ravens' offense. Many have even blamed that lack of an arsenal for the lack of postseason success with their electric quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Yet, that "excuse," if you will, may no longer be valid if Baltimore continues to come up short. Beckham (if fully healthy), Agoholor, and Flowers are all nice additions to improve the passing game alongside the tight end, Andrews.

The ex-Oklahoma Sooner has essentially operated as the Ravens' No. 1 option in the passing game since the departure of Marquise Brown. Since being taken by the Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft, Andrews has led the team in receiving in three of their last four seasons.

While the Ravens did add other weapons, no one should expect to see any significant drop in production from Andrews, as Monken's last two seasons at Georgia show he'll utilize an elite tight end when he has one.

Yet, the biggest change will arguably be the tempo at which the Ravens play.

"It's going to be pretty fast,” offensive guard Kevin Zeitler said of the offense. "We're going to attack and attack and attack.”
