Lamar Jackson Trade to Patriots? New England Legend Devin McCourty Wants Ravens QB

Patriots legend Devin McCourty thinks Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is just what New England needs

Devin McCourty may be retired from on-field endeavors with the New England Patriots ... but that's apparently not going to stop him from playing general manager.

Speaking on the podcast "Green Light with Chris Long," McCourty advocated for the Patriots to bring in Baltimore Ravens franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson to its evolving fold.

The Patriots, desperate to reclaim their former state of prosperity and equally eager to make the Mac Jones era work, have bid farewell to newly-minted Raven Nelson Agholor and others but brought in Mike Gesicki and JuJu Smith-Schuster to help out.

McCourty, having recently ended his 13-year NFL career spent entirely with the Patriots, feels like Jackson and his former employers would be a match made in gridiron heaven, particularly with head coach Bill Belichick ostensibly overseeing any potential work from the multi-talented quarterback.

"A guy like Lamar Jackson ... everyone always sees and always talks about his limitations. In New England, it's all about, 'Let's play to your strengths," McCourty told Long, himself a fellow NFL alum. "I will be very interested. And if Bill really had him, he would be like. 'Hey, let's do this with him, let's do that with him, let's actually go play to his strengths,' which will be pretty cool to see."

As a crucial member behind the latter stages of New England's nearly-uninterrupted run of dominance over the last decade-plus, McCourty has seen countless veterans post their best numbers under the watch of Belichick and his coaching staff.

He took part in a relatively strong defensive effort for the Patriots last season but the offense sputtered in year three of the Jones era, ranking 26th in yardage.

Jackson is currently working under a non-exclusive franchise tag, one that affords him a chance to be traded if Baltimore doesn't match a new offer.

The minimum price in such a deal would be two first-round draft picks and New England is slated to choose 14th later this spring in NFL Draft in Kansas City.

The Ravens' civil war of attrition with Jackson has taken several twists and turns this week but none of them appeared to put either side any closer to a resolution.
