Ravens Todd Monken to Bring Back Lamar 'Action' Jackson?

The excitement surrounding the Baltimore Ravens offense is building as offensive coordinator Todd Monken is intent on getting the best out Lamar Jackson.

Dangerous and scary have been words recently used to describe the Baltimore Ravens' new offense that coordinator Todd Monken is installing. While the players who have used those terms definitely know what they are talking about, having seen the early stages of the new system, a new tidbit from James Jones makes it sound even scarier for the NFL.

Speaking on FS1's "Speak," Jones revealed his thoughts on the Ravens, specifically quarterback Lamar Jackson, after visiting Baltimore recently. Jones said that he spoke with Monken, the Ravens' new coordinator, during his stay in Baltimore, about his offense.

“I talked to [Todd] Monken and he said, ‘We’re taking Lamar Action Jackson back to Louisville. It’s four wide, come get it. He's gonna get the ball out of his hands. He’s gonna throw this thang. Make the right reads and it's not going to be nine people in the box that he has to juke, ..." Jones said.

Jones essentially described an offense where Monken would make Jackson's usage unpredictable. No longer will defenses be able to load the box in a sell-out to stop the run. Instead, through Monken's play-calling, defenses will have to respect the Ravens' passing game.

As for who will be catching those passes from Jackson, Jones revealed that it isn't new free-agent signing Odell Beckham Jr. that is creating a lot of buzz. Rather, Jones says that Zay Flowers is the standout receiver so far.

“Another thing I’m hearing out of that camp is Zay Flowers is the best WR out there, including OBJ, and it ain’t close,” Jones added.

The emergence of Flowers could be a big one for the Ravens' passing game as it'd give Jackson a versatile receiver who can take the top off a defense with his speed on the outside while also being able to move inside and play the slot. If Flowers' strong performances in work translate into the season, then alongside Beckham, he could form the best receiving duo that Jackson has played with.
