The Baltimore Ravens own the biggest storyline of this NFL offseason, with Lamar Jackson and his contract situation is once again the most-discussed subject.

And now it seems Lamar is about done talking … thanks to his Monday morning “goodbye” letter the QB posted on Twitter.

Tucked into the farewell, you’ll notice, is Lamar’s acknowledgment of a March 2 trade request issued to the club.

All of this is tearing the fanbase apart.

Are you pro-Lamar? Or are you anti-Lamar? There are really only two factions. And the process appears that it might get worse before it gets better. I can think of only one other fanbase that's suffered this kind of quarterback rift in recent years, and it's the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott.

And the results in Baltimore could very much be the same as in Dallas.

With the backdrop of a split fanbase, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in March 2021. And to this day, Cowboys fans argue with each other that it was either a great move or the worst deal Jerry Jones has ever agreed to.

Now the Ravens find themselves with a split fanbase with regard to Jackson's ability to "be the guy."

You're either on the side that focuses on Jackson's one playoff win in five seasons and his inability to remain healthy, or the side that acknowledges the raw talent and natural ability that won a league MVP, and recognizes Jackson can't do it alone and he just "needs a little help."

In a super-competitive AFC where a star quarterback is necessary to advance, Jackson has shown the ability to beat Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Justin Herbert. He's also shown he can single-handedly destroy the best defensive game plan devised to stop him.

But it hasn't all been good, thus the rift. Since the final day of his third season, when he became eligible for an extension, he's dealt with illness, Covid (twice), a foot injury, and now a knee injury. That's all in addition to the social media drama.

So get ready, because depending on what happens with Jackson, the Ravens could be in for a quick turnaround and another playoff appearance, or a full-on rebuild that doesn't see the postseason for a number of years.

Which side are you on?
