'Dirty Play!' Seattle Seahawks Geno Smith Rips New York Giants After 24-3 Blowout Win

"A dirty play. Dirty play. You guys can see it, it was a dirty play. There's no place in this sport for that. "I just don't respect that type of stuff.'' - Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith after a 24-3 win at New York in which all the Giants could do what ... well, play dirty.

The Seattle Seahawks looked to make it three straight wins on Monday night at Metlife Stadium as they visited the New York Giants in primetime. ... and they did so, recording a 24-3 victory that was marred by what QB Geno Smith termed "a dirty play'' from the woeful Giants.

"A dirty play. Dirty play. You guys can see it, it was a dirty play," said Smith after a game in which he needed to exit for a time due to what could've been a serious injury. "There's no place in this sport for that.

"I just don't respect that type of stuff. There's no need for that type of stuff. ... We're all battling, but there's no need to take shots at guys running out of bounds on the sideline."

Smith and the Seahawks overcame all of that for a wild success at New York that included some record-setting work on defense. How did it all play out? Follow along with us for a chronological look ...

"This is a classic opportunity for us to go against a team that’s got to have a win. We’ve got to have one too," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said prior to Thursday's practice. "Matching up in the setting for Monday night is always fun. We’re looking forward to that."

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith continues to progress, but the running game is emerging as the identity of Seattle 's offense. A big part of the Seahawks' 37-27 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 was running back Kenneth Walker III, who, along with fellow back Zach Charbonnet, combined for 143 rushing yards. That rushing performance garnered Walker nationwide recognition as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

The Giants, meanwhile, are searching for answers at 1-2 and already losing ground in a competitive NFC East. Both Seattle and New York are hoping to find solid ground to close out the first month of the season.

Running back Matt Brieda runs up the middle for five yards and another first down.

Jones hits Robinson for 12 yards to convert a third and six.

In his first game in over a year, Adams is helped off the field after making a tackle on Jones.

The Seahawks stuff Jones' quarterback sneak on fourth and one, forcing a turnover on downs.

Seahawks' first drive: The Giants thought they had Kenneth Walker on the ground, but he got up and kept running for an apparent 73-yard touchdown. The play is under review.

After review, Walker was determined to be down for a loss of two.

New York's Kayvon Thibodeaux sacks Geno Smith on third down and Seattle will punt. The Seahawks go three and out on their opening drive.

The Giants muff the punt, but are able to recover and avoid the turnover.

Giants' first drive: Jones scrambles for 16 yards and a first down.

Rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon comes flying off the edge to take down Jones, recording his first NFL sack.

Jones' pass to Darius Slayton on third down falls incomplete, forcing another punt. The punt bounces into the end zone for a touchback, so the Seahawks will start from their own 20.

Seahawks' second drive: Smith hits tight end Noah Fast on play action for 12 yards and a quick first down.

Smith's deep pass for Tyler Lockett falls incomplete as the teams trade offsetting penalties. Guard Phil Haynes was injured on the play, but walked off under his own power. Fourth-round rookie Anthony Bradford enters the game in Haynes' absence.

Back-to-back penalties force the Seahawks into a first-and-25 situation.

Smith evades the sack and hits Lockett for a 22-yard gain, but a holding on D.K. Metcalf wipes the play away. Seahawks have had a penalty on four consecutive plays.

Metcalf makes the catch while getting draped on third and eight, but the pass is ruled incomplete as he stepped out of bounds. The Seahawks will punt once again.

Giants' third drive: Jones hits Robinson on a screen for 11 yards and a first down.

Fumble alert! Mario Edwards sacks Jones from behind to force a fumble and Jordyn Brooks recovers for Seattle. The Seahawks take over inside the opposing 10.

Seahawks' third drive: Smith finds Metcalf, who makes a diving catch in the corner of the end zone for the game's first touchdown as the first quarter comes to an end.

Seahawks lead 7-0 after the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

Giants' fourth drive: The Giants only get out to the 20 on the return, then an unnecessary roughness penalty pushes them back to their own 10.

Jones evades pressure on third down to find Breida for 22 and a first down.

The Seahawks invade the backfield to bring down Breida for a loss of five.

Jones throws it away on third and 11, forcing another punt. A Giants penalty means the Seahawks will take over at their own 17.

Seahawks' fourth drive: Smith and Metcalf keep their connection going for a 16-yard gain on the first play of the drive.

Smith catches his own pass after it's batted down, but it results in a loss of two.

The Seahawks call their first timeout of the half. Tempers start to rise after Smith came up awkwardly on the last play, but he remains in the game.

Smith's screen pass is batted down by Thibodeaux, but he can't quite bring it in for an easy pick six. Seattle punts again and are able to pin New York inside its own five-yard line.

Breida takes a pass over the middle from Jones 22 yards, extending the drive.

Robinson makes a catch in the flat for another Giants first down.

Seahawks lead 7-3 with 3:05 remaining in the second quarter.

Seahawks' fifth drive: The kickoff goes for a touchback and Seattle will take over at its 25. Drew Lock is now in at quarterback after Smith's injury on the previous drive, marking his first regular-season action as a Seahawk.

Lock makes a play with his feet by scrambling for 11 yards and a new set of downs.

On the next play, Metcalf battles for a gain of 12 and another first down.

Lock rolls out to find Fant, who makes a great catch-and run, going for 51 yards to get the Seahawks on the doorstep.

Walker finds the end zone from a yard away, extending the Seahawks' lead as tempers flare again.

Seahawks lead 14-3 with 1:39 remaining in the second quarter.

Giants' sixth drive: Julian Love makes a play against his former team, dropping Breida for a loss on the first play of the drive.

Riq Woolen nearly makes a diving pick, but the ball falls out of his hands for an incompletion.

The Giants punt again and get a bit physical as a defender shoves Seattle's DeeJay Dallas during the play.

Seahawks' sixth drive: A quick drive as the Seahawks go three-and-out with each play being a Walker run.

The Giants use their final timeout to try to get another chance on offense, but a penalty extends the Seattle drive.

Three more Walker carries later and it's halftime in this one.

Seahawks lead 14-3 at the end of the first half.

THIRD QUARTER

Seahawks' seventh drive: Smith is back in the game after briefly exiting near the end of the first half.

Smith's first pass of the half goes for a first down to Lockett, but an ineligible man downfield penalty wipes it out.

The two make up for it with a deep pass for 23 yards and a first down. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Smith forces the Seahawks back, but they still have a new set of downs.

Walker breaks off his best run of the night for 16 yards while breaking multiple tackles.

Immediately after, Zach Charbonnet takes his first carry of the night for 15 yards.

Smith's pass for Charbonnet on fourth and one falls incomplete and the Seahawks drive stalls out in the red zone.

Dallas takes the punt return to midfield and a Giants penalty gives the Seahawks great field position.

Seahawks' eighth drive: Smith throws the ball away just in time to avoid a sack on third down.

Jason Myers' 53-yard field goal attempt sails wide left as the Seahawks are unable to take advantage of their good starting field position.

Giants' eighth drive: Edwards takes a flag for a face mask on Breida, resulting in a New York first down.

Jones scrambles for 10 yards on a fourth and one to set up a first and goal.

As if Witherspoon hadn't had a great enough night already, he picks off Jones and runs it back for a 97-yard touchdown. The No. 5 overall pick is living up to his billing in this game.

Seahawks lead 21-3 with 1:03 remaining in the third quarter.

Giants' ninth drive: Slayton makes a 12-yard catch for a fresh set of downs.

Breida makes a diving catch for three yards as the third quarter comes to a close.

Seahawks lead 21-3 at the end of the third quarter.

Jones hits Robinson for six yards on fourth and five to move the chains.

Jones scrambles for what would've been a first down, but a holding call negates the play and creates a first and 20.

Wagner gets to Jones again for his second sack of the night and the Seahawks' seventh as a team.

Yet another Seahawks sack as Uchena Nwosu brings him down this time.

Shockingly, the Giants take another special teams penalty, this time for an illegal shift. Seattle will take over at their own 30.

Seahawks' ninth drive: Not much doing on this possession as the Seahawks go three-and-out.

Michael Dickson pins the Giants inside their own 20 with another good punt.

Lock's fourth-down pass is batted down at the line for a turnover on downs by Seattle.

Giants' twelfth drive: Tyrod Taylor is in at quarterback for New York to close the game out.
