Seahawks QB Drew Lock Reflects on Preseason Opener: 'Had a Blast!

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock got his first taste of game-like action against the Minnesota Vikings and admitted he loved being back in the huddle.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks (1-0) got their preseason off to a winning start as they defeated the Minnesota Vikings (0-1), 24-13, at Lumen Field on Thursday night.

With Geno Smith watching on the sidelines, it was Drew Lock's chance to remind the football public of his talents after spending the entirety of last season warming the sideline.

So, how did it feel to finally be back in proper football action for Lock?

“Had a blast,” Lock said. “12’s were definitely in effect, silent cadence in a preseason game is hard to get done in any stadium so that was awesome. Overall, it felt great to just be playing football again. It’s weird when you go a whole year without taking a snap and man it felt good to finally be back out there.”

Lock played the majority of the game and would finish his work going 17 of 24 for 191 yards, two touchdowns (one to Jake Bobo), and an interception. He also rushed for 14 yards on three attempts as well.

Not playing a single competitive snap last season while Smith led the Seahawks to the playoffs, Lock had to ride the bench.

But in the preseason, starters rarely play, and if they do, it's a series or two. For Lock, getting any kind of competitive snaps are worth their weight in gold.

“Extremely valuable,” Lock said on his reps vs. the Vikings. “It was the first time in my career without taking a snap in a season, it was interesting. Going back out there, feeling the flow of the game again, being the one in charge. We do a great job [in] practice of trying to simulate a game but nothing's compared to when you really step out there, moving the ball, trying to put points up. I’ll take every rep I can get, it was really fun.”

While it is only preseason, we can feel the happiness from Lock as it almost seems like he re-discovered his love for football on Thursday night (not that he ever lost it).

It was the first preseason game, and you can tell from Lock's words that he felt good being back in the starting lineup.
