Seahawks 'Going to Have Answers' in Year 1, Says Coach Mike Macdonald

Mike Macdonald is the Seattle Seahawks' new head coach and gave an insight into how he sees his team playing going forward.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is already getting used to his new surroundings after making the move from the Baltimore Ravens.

With Macdonald now steering the ship, the thought is that he will be calling the defensive plays next season. The offensive coordinator position is still up in the air after Shane Waldron made the switch to the Chicago Bears.

But regardless, Macdonald has an idea of how he wants his team to play, and much of it is centered around running the football.

“The percentage of when you run the ball and how much, that's all adjustable," Macdonald said. "To me, it's going to mirror our football team. We're going to be a physical football team. We're going to have answers. We're going to try to be explosive and really build it around the players that we have. We're going through the process right now of who's going to be helping design that and ultimately calling plays. To have a specific answer for you what it's going to look like, I can't do that now, but that'll come into focus here sooner than later."

Given that Seattle has Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet as its running backs to bring the physicality, and receivers in D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to bring the explosive plays, it all seems to fit.

Having been in Baltimore since 2015 with a year at Michigan (2021) mixed in, Macdonald might understandably need to take time to feel comfortable with a new team and city after being with the Ravens for multiple years, but he said Seattle "feels like home already."

“My wife and I have been talking, this feels like home already," he said. "It feels like God put us in this position. We prayed for clarity throughout this whole process, and it became clear that this is where we're supposed to be. We're just extremely excited to go along with the theme of just to get to work and to get to know everybody. This is the second day on the job. It feels like I've been here two months already. I'm just really excited that it's started already.”

The Seahawks got themselves a coach that's arguably one of the brightest defensive minds in football. He now has a solid young core of players to build around.

Seattle was close to being a playoff team this season, and probably should have been, but with Macdonald at the helm, there is a growing optimism that the Seahawks could be returning to the playoffs sooner rather than later.

If that transpires, Macdonald's feeling of "home" will only become stronger.
