Seahawks Pete Carroll Provides Update on Jamal Adams Injury

The Seattle Seahawks may soon be getting some much-needed reinforcements to their defensive backfield with the potential return of safety Jamal Adams.

While the Seattle Seahawks have recently sustained some hard hits on the injury front, coach Pete Carroll may have sparked a bit of optimism regarding the return of a key component within their secondary.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Carroll advised that safety Jamal Adams, who was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list prior to the start of training camp, is expected to be removed from the list within the next few days. Carroll further advised that the three-time Pro Bowler would begin to slowly acclimate himself back to the practice field by participating in walk-throughs.

Adams had been sidelined for nearly a year after suffering a torn quad tendon in the second quarter of the Seahawks victory over the the Denver Broncos in Week 1 last year. The injury ended Adams’ season.

The 27-year-old joined the NFL as the first-round selection (sixth overall) by the New York Jets in the 2017 draft. During his time in East Rutherford, Adams earned a second-team All Pro (2018) and a first-team All Pro (2019,) while helping to build a reputation as one of the AFC’s top safeties. Adams tenure with the Jets ended in 2020, when he (along with a 2022 fourth-round pick) was traded to the Seahawks in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, first-and third-round picks in 2021, and a first-round selection in 2022.

In his six seasons in the NFL, Adams has compiled 446 total tackles, 34 passes-defensed, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions. During his first season in Seattle, he set a league record for most sacks in a single season by a defensive back with 9.5.

While injury and inconsistent play has plagued his past two seasons in Seattle, Adams presence should bolster the Seahawks stable of strong safeties in their defensive backfield, including Julian Love, Coby Bryant and Jonathan Sutherland.
