Seattle Seahawks 'One to Watch' in QB Market This Offseason, Says Insider

The Seattle Seahawks seem happy with Geno Smith as the team's starter, but what about next season? ESPN's Jeremy Fowler thinks Seattle could be a surprise team in for a quarterback in the offseason.

The Seattle Seahawks are currently trying to save their season at 6-6. Geno Smith, and the offense is coming off a good performance in the 41-35 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

But in the NFL, teams are always looking forward to the future, and that brings us to the quarterback situation in Seattle. Smith has thrown for 2,918 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions this season as he looks to replicate his Pro Bowl form from a year ago.

However, moving forward, is Smith the long-term solution at the quarterback position? ESPN's Jeremy Fowler thinks that the Seahawks could be in the market for a quarterback, depending on how the season pans out.

"Seattle feels like a team to watch, depending on how the rest of the season shakes out," Fowler wrote. "Geno Smith's guaranteed money is up after 2023. But that doesn't mean the Seahawks want to move on. Smith is a capable starter coming off an impressive 334-yard game against Dallas, and his $31.2 million cap hit next season is respectable for NFL starters. But if Seattle decides to go young at QB, that would place Smith's future into question. The Seahawks have spent the past two years building the strength of the overall roster for the post-Russell Wilson era. Soon enough, that could include drafting a quarterback high in Round 1."

Will the Seahawks look to the quarterback market this offseason?

As it stands, the Seahawks have the 15th overall pick in the draft, and as Fowler says, depending on how the rest of the season shakes out, they could climb further up the draft order.

With Smith now having no guaranteed money left on his contract and his cap hit being in line with an NFL starter, Seattle isn't exactly trapped financially.

So the rest of the season feels like it will be a good gauge as to what Seattle "might" do at the position next year.

While now, the Seahawks feel like a team "to watch," by season's end, more eyes could be on Carroll and John Schneider to see how they move forward.
