Seahawks/Browns Week 6 Game Thread

Looking to start the season 5-1 for the first time since 2013 and only the third time in franchise history, the Seahawks will square off against the Browns looking for their first win in Cleveland since 2001.

Can Russell Wilson continue his torrid start against a Browns secondary missing both of their starting cornerbacks in Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams? Will Seattle’s patchwork offensive line missing tackle Duane Brown and guard D.J. Fluker be able to keep star defenders Myles Garrett and Sheldon Richardson out of the backfield? After coming up close several times against the Rams last week, will Jadeveon Clowney and Ziggy Ansah finally bust out?

From kickoff til the final horn, I'll be tracking all the key plays, story lines, and moments in this Week 6 game day thread. Feel free to comment and ask questions as the battle off the shores of Lake Erie commences!

First Quarter

15:00 - Not an ideal start for Seattle, as Browns running back Dontrell Hilliard returned the opening kickoff 74 yards to the Seahawks 23-yard line. A huge seam opened in the middle of the field and Hilliard was able to evade kicker Jason Myers before being pushed out by safety Ugo Amadi.

13:01 - After a first down completion by Baker Mayfield to tight end Pharaoh Brown, running back Nick Chubb bounced a run to the left and scooted into the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown to put the Browns up 7-0 early.

8:52 - Following a 30-yard completion to DK Metcalf, Russell Wilson tucked and ran on second and long, bolting his way to the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown to cap a seven-play, 75 yard drive. Myers sliced the extra point attempt to the left, keeping the Browns in front 7-6.

5:50 - The Seahawks looked to have a third down stop, but after an incomplete pass from Mayfield to Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns decided to go for it on fourth and seven. On the ensuing play, Mayfield fired a downfield strike to Jarvis Landry to move the chains and extend the drive into the red zone. Two plays later, Mayfield matched Wilson with a 10-yard scramble up the middle to extend Cleveland's lead to 14-6.

1:26 - Seattle used a 21-yard reception from running back Chris Carson to move into Cleveland territory, but defensive end Myles Garrett collapsed the pocked on second down and sacked Wilson, setting the Seahawks behind the sticks. After an incomplete pass to Malik Turner, the Seahawks were forced to punt and Michael Dickson pinned the Browns inside their own 10-yard line.

0:15 - Cutting back against the teeth of Seattle's defense, Chubb found a massive cutback lane and accelerated into the secondary for a 52-yard run on the final play of the first quarter. The Browns will have first down at the Seahawks 31-yard line moving into the second quarter.

Second Quarter

14:54 - Quickly capitalizing on excellent field position, Mayfield faked to Chubb out of the backfield and found tight end Ricky Seal-Jones for a 33-yard touchdown. He slipped past the coverage of linebacker Mychal Kendricks wide open, extending the Browns lead to 20-6. Matching Myers, Browns kicker Austin Seibert missed the extra point.

10:50 - In potentially devastating news for the Seahawks, tight end Will Dissly's left leg buckled as he tried to adjust to a throw in the end zone by Wilson. He wasn't able to make the catch and then laid on the field for a moment before being helped off the field by trainers. He was ruled out with an Achilles injury, a huge blow to Seattle's offense. Unable to convert on third down, Myers nailed a 38-yard field goal to trim the Browns lead to 20-9.

10:06 - Making a game-changing play, receiver David Moore blocked the Browns punt after a quick three-and-out. The Seahawks recovered inside Cleveland's 30-yard line, setting them up with outstanding field position. Seattle once again had to settle for a short Myers field goal, cutting the deficit to eight points.

6:05 - With the Browns driving once again, the Seahawks finally came up with a critical stop, as cornerback Tre Flowers reeled in his first career NFL interception while in coverage against Beckham. Beckham thought he took the ball away from Flowers, but officials ruled the defender gave himself up after the pick. Seattle couldn't take advantage of the turnover, however, promptly going three-and-out before punting it back to Cleveland only a minute later.

4:48 - Showing why he's one of the best in the business, Beckham made a sensational sideline catch with safety Tedric Thompson covering him. Thompson looked to have a shot at making a play on the ball, but lost his feet, allowing Beckham to high point the football and secure the catch. His left elbow landed in bounds before his shoulder pads hit out of bounds, confirming the reception.

2:28 - Seattle had another prime opportunity to get off the field with a stop and hold Cleveland to a field goal. But even with multiple rushers bearing down on him on third down, Mayfield escaped the pocket to buy himself time and picked up the first down on a completion to Antonio Calloway right before the two-minute warning.

2:00 - On the second play after the two-minute warning, Thompson made his second pivotal interception in as many games. With Shaquill Griffin in coverage against Jarvis Landry, the third-year cornerback got a piece of the football and Thompson dove to pick off the deflection. Since he wasn't hit by a Browns player, he was able to get up and return the interception 18 yards.

0:22 - Continuing his MVP-caliber play during the first half of the season, Wilson marched the Seahawks 88 yards on eight plays, finishing off the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Brown while getting leveled by an oncoming pass rusher. Seattle attempted to tie the game with a two-point conversion, but C.J. Prosise was stopped a yard short, keeping Cleveland out in front 20-18.

Third Quarter

12:43 - Seattle had a shot at taking its first lead out of the intermission, but a holding penalty against Justin Britt put Wilson and his offense behind the sticks. Then former Seahawk starter Sheldon Richardson brought Wilson down for a sack, eventually forcing another punt from deep in their own territory.

8:54 - The Seahawks continue to find ways to thwart possible scoring drives for the opposition. Already with two interceptions in the first half, defensive end Ziggy Ansah forced and recovered a fumble against Chubb after catching a screen pass. Seattle took over at their own 42-yard line with a chance to take the lead.

6:00 - Seattle couldn't maximize its opportunities earlier in the game after Flowers and Thompson picked off Mayfield, but fortunes changed after the fumble. Carson rumbled on a 25-yard run to put Seattle into the red zone and aided by excellent pass pro from tackle Germain Ifedi, Wilson found Brown for their second touchdown connection from six yards out. With the score, the Seahawks moved out in front for the first time in the game.

4:08 - Call in shooting themselves in the foot or questionable officiating, but back-to-back penalties immediately halted the Browns ensuing drive. First, Cleveland was penalized for an ineligible man downfield and then Landry was questionably called for a blind side block that looked perfectly legal.

1:07 - Closing in on midfield but still in their own territory, the Seahawks coughed up the football at the worst of times, as Prosise fumbled the football on third and four. The Browns quickly recovered and benefited from a roughing the passer penalty on Jadeveon Clowney on the next play.

Fourth Quarter

14:24 - After driving deep into Seattle territory, Cleveland barely picked up a fourth and three conversion with Hilliard stretching the football past the marker at the Seahawks 20-yard line after catching a pass in the flats from Mayfield.

10:49 - Facing a pivotal fourth down and goal from the Seahawks one-yard line, the Browns first attempt to punch the ball into the end zone was unsuccessful, as Landry fumbled before getting past the goal line. But Seattle had 12 defenders on the field and didn't use a timeout, leading to a replay of the down. Cleveland promptly challenged the play and though Landry looked to get the ball past the goal line before fumbling, it wasn't overturned. Seattle came up with a huge run stop on the second attempt, hitting Chubb behind the line for a turnover on downs.

9:53 - The Browns defense held firm with the Seahawks pinned deep in their own territory, forcing a three-and-out. With minimal room to operate, Michael Dickson botched the punt on fourth down, giving Cleveland starting field position inside the 30-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Chubb rolled through several tacklers to gain 21 yards and push the Browns back inside the five-yard line. Wasting little time, Chubb crossed the goal line on an impressive second effort to put his team back in the lead. Mayfield found Demetrius Harris on a two-point conversion, extending the advantage to 28-25.

6:53 - Trailing by three points on the scoreboard, Seattle benefited greatly from a strange horse collar penalty called against Morgan Burnett as he hit Wilson outside of the pocket. Three plays later, Carson broke through two tackles at the line of scrimmage and managed to pick up 24 yards for a first down. Wilson then hooked up with Lockett for a 16-yard reception that was initially ruled a touchdown before being overturned. One yard out, Carson punched it in on the next play to push Seattle back into the lead 32-28.

2:41 - Immediately after Carson's touchdown, the Seahawks picked off Mayfield for a third time. The second-year signal caller threw a slant behind Hilliard, who couldn't reel it in, allowing linebacker K.J. Wright to make the interception inside Cleveland's 30-yard line.

2:32 - Seemingly icing the game for good, Wilson connected with Metcalf just past the marker for a first down on third and eight. Metcalf had the ball knocked out of his hands, but officials ruled he caught it and then fumbled out of bounds, keeping possession with Seattle. Cleveland would've likely challenged the play, but without a timeout, they weren't able to throw the red flag for review.
