Analyst Believes Clock is Ticking Between Mike Tomlin and Steelers

Mike Tomlin's seat is getting warm with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't won a playoff game in a long time, and over the years, the fans have started to express their disappointment about the lack of success once the team hits the postseason.

Most of that disappointment is geared toward head coach Mike Tomlin. Year after year, the Steelers seem to be in a position to win, and most times, the feel of a playoff run is believable. But without a postseason victory since 2016, the patience of those supporting the Steelers has grown thin - and one radio host believes Tomlin is a season away from being on the hot seat.

Chris Mueller of 93.7 The Fan suggested that Tomlin's seat is going to get warm if the team isn't able to secure at least one playoff win in 2023.

"If we get to next year and they haven't won a playoff game, the water should start boiling under a lot of different people, mainly Mike Tomlin, who will then have gone seven years without a playoff win," Mueller said. "But I think this is the beginning of a two-year window that's going to tell you a whole lot about the next five years or so of what the Pittsburgh Steelers are, or are not going to be."

This conversation comes only a few weeks after the media was talking about a possible contract extension for the head coach. Now, it's believed - at least by one host - that the Steelers aren't going to keep anyone around who isn't winning.

"I would say that there is a two-year window starting right now, where it is very much put up or shut up time for what they have built," Mueller said.

Tomlin has never had a losing season as a head coach, but is only 8-9 in the postseason. He holds a Super Bowl win and has been to two of them, but with seven years behind him since his last playoff win, the clock might be ticking.
