Steelers Prospect Darnell Wright Tabbed Best Player in NFL Draft by Pittsburgh Legend

The Pittsburgh Steelers could land an All-Pro offensive tackle in the first round.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are spending plenty of time doing their homework on offensive tackles in the NFL Draft, and one option near the middle to end of the first round is Tennessee OT Darnell Wright.

Wright and the Steelers met at the NFL Combine and has mocked to Pittsburgh on numerous accounts during the draft process. And now, a month away from Draft Day, the Tennessee product is receiving some very high praise from a former Pittsburgh legend.

"Darnell Wright going to be a Pro Bowl/All Pro his rookie season. In consideration in my mind for best overall player in this draft when it is all said and done. Should be a GREAT pro," former Pitt star and current ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick tweeted.

Here's what All Steelers' NFL Draft analyst Derrick Bell wrote about Wright in his scouting report:

"Wright may not be for every offensive scheme, but he has rock-solid tape as a pass protector against the best competition that the NCAA has to offer, holding both BJ Ojulari and Will Anderson in check this past season. Traits matter but matchups also matter and Wright won essentially every matchup that he was in this past season. He understands how he wins and plays to his strengths, but NFL coordinators will likely have to give him some help early on against the game's elite speed rushers who can threaten him upfield."

Wright could be available at pick 17 and is certainly gaining enough speed to believe he could be gone by pick 32 if the Steelers decided to wait. It'll be interesting to see if the team views the offensive tackle in the same light as Riddick, who was a candidate for their general manager job last season.
