Steelers Land Massive Steal in Latest Mock Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers make a splash in the second round of the latest mock draft.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers land one of the NFL Draft's top quarterbacks, and are able to wait to do so, in Pro Football Network's latest mock.

PFN's A.J. Schulte says the Steelers could get their hands on Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with their second-round pick - yes, second-round pick - after being able to add to their defense in the first-round.

Pittsburgh uses the 20th pick in the draft to select Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, and then comes back with the 51st pick to select the Heisman finalist and National Championship QB.

"It seems pretty obvious the Steelers don’t feel comfortable with Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph as their quarterback of the future. Michael Penix Jr.‘s draft stock varies from scout to scout, but I kept running out of reasons for him not landing with the Steelers. Penix adds a different element to the Steelers’ quarterback room with his downfield ability and pocket management," Schulte writes.

Penix is the seventh quarterback selected in the mock draft, following Bo Nix (39th) and Michael Pratt (45th) in the second round.

With Penix and McKinstry, the Steelers are able to add value to two of their biggest needs, and could have two day one starters in their rookie class. Some mocks have the Washington quarterback going as early as the top 10 picks in the draft, and there is debate on whether or not he'll be the third or fourth quarterback taken.

To get him in the second round could be considered a huge steal for Pittsburgh.

In the seven-round mock, the Steelers go on to select the following to round out their class:

Rd 3, Pick 84: Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina

Rd 4, Pick 114: Tykee Smith, DB, Georgia

Rd 4, Pick 115: Sataoa Laumea, OT, Utah

Rd 6, Pick 178: Jha’Quan Jackson, WR, Tulane

Rd 7, Pick 211: Jontrey Hunter, LB, Georgia State
