Steelers Ready to Shock NFL

The Pittsburgh Steelers know exactly what they can do this season.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have a feel to them. It's not one person who believes it or one player who made a bold statement. As 90 player arrived at Saint Vincent College, the "vibe" was different,  more focused on the big picture, understanding that it's not about putting the pieces together anymore, but building a team that's going to win.

"Coming in, we know the roles," running back Jaylen Warren told All Steelers. "We've our o-line, our quarterback. We know we're not searching for that anymore. It's good that we know that so we can move forward and build what we have now."

That seems to be the understanding in Pittsburgh. Well, Latrobe. The Steelers built their team last year. This offseason, they plugged the holes - which were limited - and put themselves in position to be a competitor now, not later.

"We had a vision after last season, Coach [Mike Tomlin], Art [Rooney] and myself. We got together and…we had a vision of what we wanted the roster to look like this year and how we were gonna win football games," general manager Omar Khan said. "I can say that every single week in this league brings a different challenge, and you have to win football games in a different way every week. Sometimes we’re gonna win, hopefully win scoring.

"You might win scoring 12 points, sometimes you might need to score 40 points. I’m confident we can win either way."

With that said, it's easy to know what the final goal is. It's been seven years since the team won a playoff game, and heading into the season, they're very ready to end that streak.

"Getting into Year 7, you're just trying to get to the Super Bowl. I've played in three playoff games and haven't won a single one, so that's a big issue," linebacker T.J. Watt said. "That's probably goal No. 1 is just to get into the playoffs and win a playoff game and just go from there."

There's just something different in the Steelers locker room this summer. Last year, you could tell that they knew they needed to rebuild. At times, they acknowledged it.

This year, they know they have the team to compete, and if everything works out, they have the team to make a run late in the postseason.

The lack of success is bothering this group. And they're ready for things to change.

"I told the team last night how excited I was about the locker room that we've assembled there and the group of and the group of men that we have in that locker," Khan said. "We're in a good spot right now and I really believe that."
