Steelers Have a Special Feel This Summer

There's something about the Pittsburgh Steelers right now.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers might have something special. It's early. Too early. But there's a feel to this team, and the practices they put out during minicamp and OTAs, that make you notice.

From an outside perspective, it's easy to tell. NFL analyst Brian Baldinger caught it quick during his one day at minicamp, telling In the Huddle podcast that the Steelers "might as well put pads on."

"I've been at six different OTAs. I haven't seen a practice like this," Baldinger said.

It's not just those observing, though. The players have felt an uptick in energy right out of the gate, and this new group of Steelers seem to be coming in hot as they look to bounce back from 2022.

"Everybody was screaming," George Pickens described minicamp practice.

"It's super early, but just the vibe of the people. I kinda said that in an earlier interview, before we even started practicing, I could tell the vibe of the people is super super cool. Super super ready to go. And they're super super energized too, that's the thing," Pickens continued. "I ain't gonna say the last group; guys last year, we had energy, but this year it's on-field energy. A lot more communication as well, too."

Through three weeks of OTAs and one week of minicamp, seemingly everyone made plays. There wasn't a day that went by without a new story about someone different having themselves a day at practice.

Now, they'll take a little over a month off before heading to Latrobe for training camp. But that energy isn't dying off anytime soon, because these players are thriving off of it.

"I feel great. I'm just enjoying the energy," Pickens said. "I like to watch guys go crazy. I like to watch guys make plays. So, it was real fun for me."
