Playoff Bound? CBS Sports Makes Bold Texans Claim After Strong Offseason

After putting together a strong start to their offseason, one analysts believes the Texans are potential playoff contenders.

The Houston Texans were not a very good football team last season - or the two years before that, for that matter. They have not posted a winning record or made the playoffs in four years, going 10-6 and losing in the divisional round in 2019.

That could all change this season, though, as the Texans have had a strong offseason so far. While the season is still a few months away, predictions are already being made. Some have little faith in Houston, while others, like CBS Sports, believe a playoff berth is on the horizon.

"The Jags are huge favorites to win the division, and rightly so," CBS Sports wrote. "they have the best roster, and I trust their QB/coach combo. And while I'm not a huge Stroud fan, I am a big DeMeco Ryans fan."

"I think the Texans are being slept on for their roster improvements this offseason. With Damien Pierce/Devin Singletary and a good offensive line, this team should be able to run."

In his rookie season, Pierce dominated defenses, rushing for 939 yards and four touchdowns. Add in Singletary, who rushed for 819 yards and five touchdowns himself, and the Texans do have a potentially potent ground game.

Not only that, but the Texans had a solid off-season addressing their playmakers on offense. They brought in Dalton Schultz, Robert Woods, and Noah Brown via free agency while selecting Tank Dell in the draft.

"Bobby Slowik is VERY intriguing as a first-year offensive coordinator coming from Kyle Shanahan's system," CBS Sports wrote. "The pass-catchers aren't flashy, but this is the best floor Houston's had in a while there."

All this fails to mention the defense, who with the selection of Will Anderson Jr., has the potential to be a much-improved unit come the fall.

"Will Anderson Jr. is the highlight on defense, but the Texans also added a lot of non-flashy veteran guys who could raise the bar for this unit, too," CBS Sports wrote.

Odds are that this season, while likely an improvement from three straight seasons with less than five wins, might not be the year they make the leap back into the postseason.

Or they could make a massive leap behind their pair of first-round rookies and offseason acquisitions, a turnaround that would signal the rebuild is officially over in Houston.
