Demeco Ryans Has 'Not Spoken' With WR DeAndre Hopkins About Texans Signing

With DeAndre Hopkins still on the free agency market, Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans minimizes rumors about a potential reunion with the former All-Pro receiver.

HOUSTON — It has been almost two weeks since the Arizona Cardinals released DeAndre Hopkins. And following his departure, a reunion between Hopkins and the Houston Texans has been a prime topic.

The Houston Chronicle was the first to report Hopkins' interest in joining the team that drafted him in the first round (No. 27 overall) during the 2013 NFL Draft.

Coach DeMeco Ryans stated in the past Houston will not pass on the opportunity to explore the open market in an attempt to upgrade their roster. But when it comes to Hopkins, Ryans said he has not spoken to anyone about the possibility of signing the former All-Pro receiver.

"With any player, good players, they come up all the time," Ryans said. "Nothing is off the table for us. We will explore all options. Me personally, I have not spoken with anybody."

Hopkins would upgrade the Texans' wide receiver unit ahead of the 2023 season. But during the third and final week of OTAs, the Texans are pleased with their current receivers.

A healthy season from Nico Collins has him on the verge of a breakout year, while Ryans and his staff continue to rave about the early developments from rookie prospect Tank Dell.

Xavier Hutchinson was one of several standouts during OTA practice Tuesday morning at the Houston Methodist Training Center. He caught a 30-yard completion from quarterback Case Keenum during 11-on-11 drills.

"Those two young guys coming into the league, they were just like me," Collins said. "I feel where they’re coming from. They’re asking for help, so I’m just helping them out as much as I can. I’m still learning just as [much as] them. So, we’re all kind of in the same boat. Just come in every day and get better."

The 31-year-old wideout ended his tenure with the Cardinals catching 221 passes for 2,696 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Several teams are out on Hopkins. But the Cleveland Browns could attempt to sign Hopkins, which would reunite him with quarterback Deshaun Watson. In addition to the Browns, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs could make a move for Hopkins.
