Texans WR Noah Brown Thinks C.J. Stroud Could 'Surpass' Cowboys Dak Prescott

Houston Texans veteran wide receiver Noah Brown left mandatory minicamp impressed with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.

HOUSTON — Houston Texans' wide receiver Noah Brown shared his honesty about watching quarterback C.J. Stroud at Ohio State. Brown has not watched every game from his alma mater, but everything he knew about Stroud ahead of mandatory minicamp was accurate.

"I know C.J. has great arm talent," Brown said. "The little bit of time I've been here working with him, he's picked up the offense fast, taken ownership of his reps. I think that can only lead to positive things."

Brown knows a thing or two about quarterback talent too, having played with Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott for the last five seasons before joining the Texans this spring.

And while Brown feels it is too early to compare Stroud to a Pro Bowl-caliber player such as Prescott, he believes in Stroud's ability to one day reach that level — and in some cases, surpass him.

"They're both great quarterbacks — great arm talent," Brown said. "That's a great class to be in. I think he has all the potential to live up to that, maybe even surpass it. So, you know, I'm rooting for C.J. and I’m willing to have his back on anything."

Stroud began his first off-season with the Texans in competition with third-year quarterback Davis Mills. He took second-team reps for the majority of OTAs. But by the end of minicamp, it appears Stroud had taken the upper hand over Mills.

He spent most of his time practicing alongside the projected starters during mandatory camp, where Stroud led Houston's offense on several touchdown drives during 2-minute drills.

His best drive came Wednesday morning at the Houston Methodist Training Center, which resulted in an 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Schultz

With training camp set to begin in July, Stroud has already illustrated what made him A top quarterback prospect coming into the NFL Draft in April.

He finished his college career throwing for 8,123 yards while completing 69.3 percent of his passes for 85 touchdowns and a dozen interceptions.

Despite falling 42-41, Stroud's performance against the Georgia Bulldogs was one of the best games of his college career. He finished with 348 yards and four touchdowns while completing 23-of-34 pass attempts.
