'I Can Make Plays!': Bounce Back Season for Texans WR Robert Woods?

Looking to get back to being a 1,000-yard receiver, Robert Woods is prepared to help however he can in Houston.

When the Houston Texans signed receiver Robert Woods to a two-year contract this offseason, they locked in a reliable veteran for their next franchise quarterback to work with as he transitions to the NFL.

Not only is Woods a dependable weapon for rookie C.J. Stroud to look to on offense, but he has also been one of the league's most consistent receivers - even if he is coming off the worst statistical season of his career.

He hauled in 53 receptions for a career-low 527 receiving yards and only two touchdowns in 2022 with the Tennessee Titans. Despite that, though, he is confident in what he brings to the Houston offense.

“I had my fewest yards and might have just as well had my second-fewest attempts [last year]," Woods told DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. "I’m able to make the plays and do more with more."

“And I think that was the thing when I got to L.A., I saw my catches go from 50 a year to 90, to 100. And obviously, I doubled my yards and doubled the stats."

Woods also mentioned that he “most definitely” feels he can be a 1,000-yard receiver again, a mark he hit twice in back-to-back seasons from 2018-2019 with the Los Angeles Rams.

However, even if Woods doesn't hit 1,000 yards this season for Houston, he can still be a valuable asset to the offense. His experience will make life vastly easier for Stroud, and the veteran is looking forward to helping in whatever way he can.

“It’s just about getting the opportunity to make plays and help contribute to the team," Woods said. "That’s what I’m hoping to do here in Houston, have opportunities to make big plays and be myself and do what I’m capable of doing.”
