NFL Draft: Georgia DL Jalen Carter To Only Visit Teams With Top-10 Picks

Carter is only working out for teams picking within the top 10, like Houston.

One of the most compelling storylines for the 2023 NFL Draft has been the future of Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman, Jalen Carter.

And now, that future just got a little bit more interesting, with Carter's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, telling ESPN that the defensive lineman would only take visits with teams that are picking inside the top 10.

“I’m confident Jalen will go in the top 10,” Rosenhaus told ESPN in the report. “He’s a good person, a family man, loves football, and is a generational talent.”

Rosenhaus has declined private workout requests from teams picking outside the top 10, but said he would schedule a pre-draft visit for a team that trades into that range prior to the draft. Carter has already reportedly taken visits to the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears, who pick at No. 10 and No. 9, respectively.

While Houston will likely go with a quarterback with the second-overall selection, the Texans will still no doubt consider Carter to some degree either way.

And in the process, the Texans must also decide if the numerous red flags are worth adding one of the most physically talented players in this draft class.

Carter, who at one point was considered a consensus top-five pick, was a key part of Georgia’s stout defense that allowed the fewest rushing yards per game (77) in 2022. He currently has the sixth-best odds to be drafted No. 1 overall.

In the Bulldogs’ back-to-back championship run, Carter finished with 69 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The concerns about Carter stem from a car-racing incident in which a crash which left a Georgia teammate and staff member dead.

Carter entered a no-contest plea to the charges on March 16. Carter was later sentenced to 12 months of probation, will pay a $1,000 fine, perform 80 hours of community service and complete a state-approved defensive driving course.

It has also been speculated by his coach, Kirby Smart, that some of his more recent problems are "psychological'' in nature due to the fatal crash.

In total, the Texans have 11 selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, and in the midst of a rebuild, has needs to fill all over its roster

And with Carter, whether the choice comes at No. 2 or No. 12, they could face the ultimate risk vs. reward type pick for that rebuild.
