49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo A 'Natural Fit' For Texans?

The Texans could be a natural landing spot for Ex-49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

The Houston Texans are in search of a new quarterback this offseason and are expected to use their No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft to fill that need.

However, according to reports from ESPN, it appears that new head coach DeMeco Ryans could also be in the market for some veteran help as well, in the form of his former QB with the 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo.

"Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be really number 3 in the pecking order behind Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers in this quarterback carousel," ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler said. "Natural fits for him are the Texans and Falcons."

But what would a deal to bring the veteran to Houston cost the Texans?

According to the report, it would not exactly be cheap, with Garoppolo expecting to command money that he believes fits his talent... which in and of itself, seems vague.

"He wants a contract that measures with his skill set and ability," the report said.

Last season with the 49ers, under new Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Garoppolo completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions, before his year was cut short due to an injury.

In terms of value, that kind of efficiency would command a relatively high price on the market, with Spotrac projecting his contract at 4 years and $150 million, with $75 million guaranteed, breaking down to an average of $37.5 million APY.

And considering the fact that Garoppolo has led his past teams to Super Bowls, and NFC Championships, and has won multiple playoff games, that price could potentially go even higher if multiple teams get involved.

Locigally, drafting a rookie at No. 2 overall, who would expect to come in and start immediately, would seemingly make the idea of signing a 31-year-old Garoppolo to a massive four-year deal a non-starter.

Either way, it should be a busy offseason ahead for Ryans and the Texans.
