Could Texans Pursue, Sign Bills FA LB Tremaine Edmunds?

In this story:
Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is reportedly looking for a new home.
The fifth-year veteran is now one full season removed from his rookie contract and ready to hit the ground running in free agency ahead of the 2023 season.
After recent comments, more was revealed about Edmunds' status in Buffalo, and it now seems that he will almost certainly be continuing his career elsewhere, leaving room for teams like the Houston Texans to make a splash in free agency.
"I'm gonna let the process take shape," Edmunds told FOX Sports. "You know what I mean? They've been good to me. So I definitely say thank you to the Bills for everything that they've done for me these last five years. But like I said, man, I'm just right now — I'm in the backseat."
Edmunds was already pegged as a possibility for Houston by Pro Football Focus back in January, making this new development even more enticing for general manager Nick Caserio and the Texans.
Last season for the Bills, Edmunds made the most of his 13 games — having to miss a few games due to a groin injury — by recording 102 total tackles to lead his team, including 17 more in the postseason.
His on-field presence spoke for itself and was a large reason why he has garnered interest from multiple teams around the league.
Tremaine Edmunds presence in the middle of the field cannot be replaced.

In 2023, Edmunds awareness, play recognition, and reaction time, was on full display all season.

At the linebacker position, Houston currently houses the duo of Christian Kirksey and Christian Harris, both of which finished top-five on the team in total tackles, recording 124 and 74, respectively.
Kirksey also finished top-25 in the league in tackles recording, adding three sacks and two interceptions to go along with it.
Adding another solid linebacker in Edmunds would give them an even bigger defensive presence, though it would cost them a pretty penny.
In his fifth year with the Bills, Edmunds made $12.7 million, which was a large increase from his per-year average during his four-year rookie contract, and is likely to command more from any front office looking to bring him home.
So, the main question facing the Texans is if they are willing to spend the amount it would require to add him to their defense.
One way or another, the opportunity is fast approaching when Houston will have to make that call and decide whether or not it wants to jump in the driver's seat.
