For the third and final weekend, it's time for preseason football.

The Vikings are in Kansas City for a Friday night matchup with the two-time defending AFC Champion Chiefs. If they lose, it'll be Minnesota's first winless preseason since 1979, albeit with one fewer game.

Mike Zimmer would love to see his offense put up some points in this one. The Vikings didn't score any offensive touchdowns in their 33-6 loss to the Broncos or their 12-10 loss to the Colts, with their lone TD in that game coming on a Troy Dye pick-six.

This game will look similar to last week's from a playing time standpoint. Kirk Cousins and the starting offensive line will get a few series, although skill-position players like Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, Justin Jefferson, and Adam Thielen won't play. Then it'll be turned over to Jake Browning and Kellen Mond, the two backup quarterbacks who have really struggled in the preseason. Several starters will play much of the first quarter on defense, as well.

Most importantly, this is the final opportunity for players on the roster bubble to make a good impression on the coaching staff and front office in a live game setting. The roster will be cut down to 53 players on Tuesday.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. central. You can watch the game on NFL Network or FOX 9 locally, and you can listen to it at KFAN (100.3 FM).

Live score updates

Final Score: Chiefs 28, Vikings 25

Chiefs 28, Vikings 18

8:24 — Another preseason pick-six for the Vikings. Parry Nickerson gets this one, and Kellen Mond hits Myron Mitchell for the two-point conversion.

8:32 — The Vikings just had a 17-play, 9-minute, 89-yard drive that ended in zero points. The Chiefs shut it down inside the five and forced a turnover on downs.

Third Quarter

3:41 — Chiefs get the ball back on a strip-sack of Kellen Mond. Vikings had been moving the ball a little bit before that.

Chiefs 28, Vikings 10

8:19 — The Chiefs come back with a 56-yard touchdown on a screen pass to Derrick Gore. Patrick Jones II and Camryn Bynum had chances but couldn't make the play.

Chiefs 21, Vikings 10

9:31 — In their 11th quarter of preseason football, the Vikings have scored their first offensive touchdown. A.J. Rose Jr. takes it 32 yards to the house on a pitch to the right. It happened!

13:04 — This is getting very preseason-y. Kellen Mond throws high for an interception, and the Chiefs fumble the ball on an option pitch on the very next play. Two turnovers in two plays.

Second Quarter

0:00 — The first half ends on a missed 52-yard field goal attempt from Greg Joseph. Not much going right for the Vikings this preseason.

Chiefs 21, Vikings 3

0:26 — Even the Chiefs' backups are dominating the Vikings' backups. Shane Buechele leads a 12-play, 88-yard two-minute drive to put up a touchdown.

4:01 — Everson Griffen is making his presence felt on third downs. He pressured Buechele on one series, leading to a D.J. Wonnum sack, and then picks up a sack of his own when he was left unblocked on the ensuing possession. Not much offensive success for either side in this quarter. Jake Browning is continuing to struggle for the Vikings.

12:49 — The Vikings get a stop on defense against Shane Buechele and the Chiefs. Nice PBU by Sheldon Richardson on second down and a strong tackle by Nick Vigil on third.

First Quarter

1:14 — The Vikings' second drive went a lot worse than the first. The Chiefs sacked Cousins on first down when Ameer Abdullah didn't pick up a blitzing linebacker, then they ran the ball on 2nd and 19 and Cousins checked down on third and long. Not great.

Chiefs 14, Vikings 3

3:06 — The Chiefs' offense is incredible. That's another easy touchdown drive from Mahomes and company, capped with a short touchdown pass to former Vikings tight end Blake Bell. Mahomes is 8 of 9 for 117 yards and two touchdowns in two drives. Rough start for Nick Vigil, Sheldon Richardson, and the rest of the Vikings' defense, but Mahomes is just on another level.

Chiefs 7, Vikings 3

7:55 — The Vikings' first-team offense answers with a strong opening drive that stalls inside the ten-yard line, forcing them to settle for a field goal. Kirk Cousins found Irv Smith Jr. for gains of 23 and 16 yards, and Ameer Abdullah picked up 20 yards on four touchdowns. A ten-play, 67-yard drive.

Chiefs 7, Vikings 0

12:22 — The Chiefs strike first, and quickly. Patrick Mahomes hits Travis Kelce for a 28-yard gain and then finds Tyreek Hill deep for a 35-yard touchdown. Bashaud Breeland was beaten deep by his former teammate, Hill. That looked easy against a Vikings defense with six projected starters out there. Five-play, 79-yard drive in just 2:38.
