Tight end Jason Witten is active for Cowboys, will play against Giants

Thursday September 6th, 2012

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who suffered a lacerated spleen on Aug. 13 and was listed as doubtful on the team's injury report, is active and will play on Wednesday night in the NFL season opener against the New York Giants, according to multiple reports.

Witten said he is feeling fine and that he was cleared for action, suggesting that he did not have to sign a waiver as he reportedly offered to do. He did add, however, that he would wear protective padding to prevent further damage to his spleen. It remains to be seen if Witten is his usual self -- he had team-highs of 79 catches and 942 yards last season -- or if the injury (or the extra equipment) hampers him.
