The Brooklyn Nets hired recently retired player Jason Kidd as their next head coach, the team announced Wednesday.

Kidd will be introduced at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn tomorrow at 2 pm. Kidd's contract is expected to be guaranteed for three seasons with a possible fourth-year team option. Kidd replaces interim coach P.J. Carlesimo who was not retained after the Nets were eliminated from the playoffs.

Kidd, 40, retired 10 days ago from the New York Knicks and also spent time in his NBA career, with the Dallas Mavericks (where he won an NBA title in 2011), Phoenix Suns and the New Jersey Nets. He also won two Olympic gold medals.

"Jason is a proven winner and leader with an incredible wealth of basketball knowledge and experience. This will be a natural transition for him to move into the role of head coach as he embodies the tough, smart and team-first mentality that we are trying to establish in Brooklyn," Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement.
