The Memphis Grizzlies will hire assistant Dave Joerger to be their next head coach, ESPN.com's Kevin Arnovitz reported late Monday.

Joerger has been considered a top candidate for the job since the Grizzlies parted ways with head coach Lionel Hollins two weeks ago. Other rumored candidates had been former Denver Nuggets coach George Karl and former Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry.

Joerger's appointment comes after the franchise's most successful season in history, when it won 56 games and advanced to the Western Conference Finals.

Joerger has spent the last six seasons in Memphis as an assistant. Before that, he spent time in the International Basketball Association, the Continental Basketball Association, and the USBL.
