Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he is hoping shortstop Hanley Ramirez is back for the team’s weekend series against the Chicago Cubs

Ramirez has missed the past two games after straining his right elbow.

"He's better today," Mattingly said to MLB.com. "Better than he was yesterday. So I'm hoping another day will get him [where he needs to be]."

Ramirez has had discomfort in the elbow since the beginning of the week, and there is no plan to get an MRI on the elbow.

Ramirez, 30, is batting .277 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI this season for Los Angeles, which is two games up on the San Francisco Giants in the N.L. West.
