The Washington Nationals have hired former Miami Marlins general manager and manager Dan Jennings as a special assistant to general manager Mike Rizzo and pro scout, the team announced Friday. Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi first reported that Jennings would join the Nationals’ front office.

Jennings, 55, was fired by the Marlins after he served in a first-time coaching role as interim manager beginning in May 2015, following the firing of Mike Redmond. Jennings previously served as the team’s general manager, starting in 2013, and had worked for the Marlins in various capacities since '02, beginning as vice president of player personnel. Prior to that, he worked as a major league scout for the Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds, beginning in 1986.
