The Angels got out to 9–1 lead over the Red Sox after five innings, and poured it on with 11 in the seventh en route to a commanding 21–2 win.
First baseman C.J. Cron had an incredible afternoon, going 6 for 6 with two homers, five runs scored and five RBIs. He and catcher Carlos Perez, who also had five runs scored and five RBIs with a 5-for-6 afternoon, became the first pair of teammates with at least five hits and five RBIs in a game since 1936.
Albert Pujols drove in five more runs, and hit his 15th home run of the season.
Hector Santiago was the beneficiary of the Angels’ early success at the plate, earning the win after six scoreless innings.
The rubber match between the teams will start at 1:35 p.m. ET on Sunday.
