Report: Venezuelan winter ball team offers contract to Tim Tebow
A Venezuelan winter ball team has offered former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow a contract, reports Yahoo Sports’s Jeff Passan.
Tebow is scheduled to hold a tryout for MLB teams Tuesday in Los Angeles. The 29-year-old is attempting to embark on a professional baseball career after he failed to stick in the NFL.
The team offering Tebow a contract is Aguilas del Zulia, reports Passan. Aguilas is a five-time Venezuelan Professional Baseball League Champion, and has also won the Caribbean Series twice. Tebow reportedly has interest in playing winter ball as he figures out his future.
“He’s a great talent,” Aguilas general manager Luis Amaro told Yahoo Sports. “He’s an athlete. He’s won the Heisman. He’s won two national championships. I know baseball is a hard game, but he’ll either adjust and show he’s ready to play pro ball or not. I think it’s low risk, high reward for Zulia.”
Tebow played 34 games in the NFL, last seeing action with the Jets in 2012. Tebow has not played organized baseball since high school.
