Atlanta police have declined to pursue child abuse charges against Rockets center Dwight Howard, the department told FOX 26 Sports in Houston.

Police in Cobb County, Ga., confirmed in November that there was an active child abuse investigation involving Howard. A sergeant told NBC News that the investigation stemmed from an incident from summer 2014. The case was later moved to the Atlanta Police Department.

On Monday, Sgt. Gregory Lyon of the Atlanta Police Department told FOX 26 Sports that the department will not move forward with charges in the case.

Howard's attorney, David Oscar Markus, gave a statement to FOX 26 Sports following the news.

"We are gratified that the Atlanta Police Department, after fully examining the frivolous allegations against Dwight Howard, has closed the case and decided not to proceed with charges," said Markus.

"Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect their welfare."
