New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick will start next week in the team's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach Rex Ryan said after the Jets' 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Smith was inactive against Kansas City due to an injured shoulder and it's unknown when he'll be able to play.
Vick completed 21 of 28 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown against the Chiefs. He left the game early in the fourth quarter after appearing to take a hit to the head but later returned. Matt Simms replaced Vick before his return.
Against the Bills last week, Vick completed 18 of his 36 pass attempts for 153 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. He also had four fumbles, two of which were recovered by Buffalo.
The start against Kansas City was Vick's first since Oct. 27 of last season, when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a one-year contract with the Jets over the offseason.
Overall this season, Vick has completed 56 percent of his passes for 396 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The Jets dropped to 1-8 with the loss to the Chiefs. The Steelers, who play Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens, were 5-3 entering the week.
