The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to hire former New York Jets general manager John Idzik as a consultant, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports

Idzik was fired by the Jets in December, along with head coach Rex Ryan. He was only with the team for two seasons and had a combined record of 12-20.

Idzik's first job in an NFL front office came in 1993 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2004 and moved to the Seattle Seahawks in 2007. While with Seattle, Idzik gained a reputation for successfully managing the salary cap.

Jets fans began calling for Idzik to be fired in early November. One group of fans raised $10,000 to erect a "Fire John Idzik" billboard on a highway near the stadium. A plane carrying a banner with the same message also flew over the Jets' practice facility

The Jaguars finished 3-13 last season. It was the fourth consecutive year they failed to win more than five games. Jacksonville hasn't made the playoffs since 2007.
