The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Reggie Bush to a one-year deal, the team announced on Wednesday.

Bush was released by the Detroit Lions last month after spending two seasons with the team. In 2014, Bush ran for 297 yards and two touchdowns with 253 receiving yards in 11 games. In Bush's first season in Detroit in 2013, he ran for 1006 yards with four touchdowns and added 506 receiving yards.

The 49ers did not re-sign running back Frank Gore, who agreed to a deal with the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the week. Gore spent his entire 10-year NFL career with San Francisco.

Bush is a former No. 2 draft pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2006 out of USC and spent the first five seasons of his career with the Saints. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2011, running for a career-high 1086 yards and six touchdowns in his first year there.

At USC, Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, which he later forfeited after the NCAA found he received illegal benefits during his time with the Trojans.
