Johnny Manziel demoted after lying to Browns about partying video
The Cleveland Browns demoted Johnny Manziel to third-string quarterback in part because was dishonest with the team about when the video of him partying in Austin, Texas was recorded, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Thursday.
Just a week after the Browns announced that Manziel would be the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, he was benched when social media posts showed him allegedly partying during Cleveland’s bye week.
A source told Glazer that not only did Manziel lie to coach Mike Pettine about when the video was taken, but he also asked his friends to lie on his behalf.
The video showed Manziel rapping in a night club holding what appeared to be a champagne bottle. Manizel spent 10 weeks in rehab during the off-season.
Manziel has started Cleveland’s last two games, both losses. He threw for a career high 372 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 15.
