Report: Eagles, Chip Kelly offered Titans huge haul to draft Mariota
When Chip Kelly was still the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, he reportedly offered the Tennessee Titans a huge package in return for their No. 2 draft pick, Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager told Colin Cowherd on Thursday.
The Titans selected quarterback Marcus Mariota with the second pick of the 2015 NFL draft. For the opportunity to do the same, the Eagles offered the following, according to Schrager:
- A 2015 first-round pick (20th overall)
- A 2015 second-round pick (47th overall)
- A 2016 first-round pick (13th overall)
- Any quarterback on the roster
- Any defensive player on the roster
The Titans rejected the trade, and with their first-round pick the Eagles chose wide receiver Nelson Agholor.
Agholor started in 12 of 13 games for the Eagles last season and caught 23 passes for 283 yards and one touchdown. Mariota started in 12 games before being sidelined with a knee injury. He completed 62.2% of his passes for 2,818 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Mariota was a freshman at Oregon in Kelly’s final year as head coach, and was the starting quarterback in Oregon’s Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State in 2012.
