In a press conference on Tuesday Tom Brady spoke about the scissor accident that resulted in a cut on his left thumb and held him out of the Patriots’ preseason game on Thursday against the Bears.

Brady called the mishap “just a silly accident.”

“I was just trying to get something out of my shoe and the scissors slipped,” Brady told reporters. “I let out a probably pretty loud word I wouldn’t repeat in front of my kids. Couldn’t believe it. And then I went and got it checked out.”

Barry Alley, a photographer from CSN New England, captured a photo of Brady as he lifted the thumb during the press conference, showing the scab from his wound:

The veteran signalcaller added that his absence at team practice the past two days was because he “just had to take care of something,” and that he would have tried to play through the injury if it had occurred during the regular season.

New England will open the season on Sept. 11 against the Cardinals without Brady, who is suspended for the first four games of the season for his role in Deflategate.
