Former 49ers fullback Bruce Miller was charged Thursday with eight counts, seven of them felonies, in the beating of a 70-year-old man and his son at a San Francisco hotel earlier this week.

The charges assault with a deadly weapon (a cane), assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury.

Miller was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly assaulting the man and his son. Miller had attempted to enter a hotel room that was not his, according to a police report. The two victims reportedly sustained broken bones. Miller was released later Monday, less than a day after his arrest.

Miller was also arrested in March on suspicion of spousal battery. He eventually pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disturbing the peace.

Miller, 29, played five seasons with the Niners.
