Subban, Hall trades cause rending of garments in Montreal, Edmonton
A day may have passed, but the buzz hasn't subsided.
The hockey world is still coming to grips with the trades that shook four franchises to their foundations on Wednesday. The deal that saw the Montreal Canadiens send P.K Subban to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shea Weber is being hailed as the worst in franchise history. The reactions in Edmonton to the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils for Adam Larsson are only slightly less hyperbolic.
Fortunately, some fans were capable of maintaining their sense of humor in the face of grave disappointment, while others respectfully restrained their urge to celebrate.
Here are some of our favorite reactions from social media.
P.K. Subban for Shea Weber
Montreal actually made sick children cry by trading Subban. That just about sums it up.— Ryan Hana (@RyanHanaWWP) June 30, 2016
I get that Habs fans are upset about Subban, great guy. Let u in on a secret, Weber is kind of a big deal, has many leather bound books— Kevin Gibson (@TSNResearch) June 30, 2016
Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson
In the last 5 seasons of NHL play, Adam Larsson was the 106th defenceman in points. Nikita Nikitin was 108th. So clearly an upgrade for Oil.— Jouni Nieminen (@OnsideWithJouni) June 29, 2016
If you put the Hall/Larsson deal into an NHL trade checker, it blocks you from the page and contacts your internet service provider.— Adam Proteau (@Proteautype) June 29, 2016
Chiarelli, probably: "It's hard to let Taylor go but top young blueliners like Oliver Adam-Larsson aren't available every day."— Matt Cane (@Cane_Matt) June 30, 2016
Pete Chiarelli in the mirror: "I see your Seguin trade and raise you this Taylor Hall trade."— Bonk's Mullet (@BonksMullet) June 29, 2016
