Manchester City has signed defender Vincent Kompany to a five-year deal, the club announced Wednesday.
The captain has played with City since 2008, and has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Capital One Cup during his time with the club. Kompany has emerged as one of the Premier League's top central defenders, guiding Manchester City to new heights along the way.
This offseason, City has also signed Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva to new contracts.

Kompany told MCFC.com:
“We have a common goal and so much to look forward to - a family of clubs, the opening of City Football Academy, exciting players coming through our youth system – why would I go anywhere else?”
Kompany is also the captain of Belgium's men's national team. The country made it to the quarterfinals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but lost 1-0 to Argentina.
