United States men's national team member and AZ Alkmaar forward Aron Jóhannsson had surgery on his right groin on Friday, AZ Alkmaar announced.
Jóhannsson, 23, also had surgery on his groin in 2012 when he was playing in Denmark. Alkmaar said his expected recovery time is six weeks. He is still recovering from July ankle surgery.
Jóhannsson played for Iceland during his youth career, but switched to the United States in 2013. He was born in Alabama and raised in Iceland.
He made one appearance for the United States during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, playing the second half against Ghana during group play. He scored 26 goals last season for AZ Alkmaar.
