Osvaldo Velazquez, the man allegedly behind the kidnapping of Olympiakos striker Alan Pulido, has been arrested, Tamaulipas state prosecutor Ismael Quintanilla said Tuesday, according to ESPN FC.
Police had already arrested one suspect, Daniel Morales, who provided information on Velazquez’s whereabouts. Velazquez was taken into custody after a shootout with police, during which he was wounded in the shoulder and neck.
Pulido, 25, fought his way to escape after being kidnapped at gunpoint on Saturday night. He was held for ransom for less than 24 hours before he was brought to safety by police.
Velazquez, who is married to one of Pulido’s cousins, allegedly belongs to a drug and kidnap gang and appears to have coordinated Pulido’s kidnapping, Quintanilla said.
Pulido was left off Mexico’s Copa America roster because of his contract dispute with Tigres.
