Montana State QB Prukop considers FBS transfer

(STATS) - The Big Sky Conference makes and the FBS takes.

It's a scenario the FCS conference faces for the second straight year. Montana State star quarterback Dakota Prukop is contemplating using his final season of eligibility at the FBS level as a graduate transfer, something Oregon signal-caller Vernon Adams III has done this year after having three banner seasons at Eastern Washington.

Prukop may just follow Adams to the Ducks as he's scheduled to take an official visit to Oregon this weekend. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound dual-threat QB, a Texas native, told FOX Sports on Tuesday that Montana State has also granted releases to Texas and TCU.

"Oregon is my number one school right now because of the shotgun-style of offense they run," Prukop said.

The possibility of Prukop leaving Montana State has strengthened since the Bobcats fired coach Rob Ash after a 5-6 season. Jeff Choate was hired as coach last week and he didn't retain offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey, with whom Prukop has a close relationship.

Choate, in a statement released by Montana State, said, "Dakota has been a great Bobcat, a tremendous teammate and a leader in this program. In the short time I've known him and his family, there is no doubt he will achieve success in whatever pursuit he chooses. I respect his desire to look at all of his options and I certainly hope he chooses to remain in our program, but we will support his decision regardless."

Prukop is a two-year starter at Montana State. This season, he completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,025 yards with 28 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He rushed for 797 yards and 11 TDs while earning second-team all-Big Sky honors.

He is on schedule to graduate this semester. If he does, he could transfer and be eligible for spring practices.
