SI All-American recently spent time at IMG Academy, where it was able to sit down with rising junior quarterback and class of 2022 Florida State commitment Chad Mascoe. The 6-foot, 222-pound dual-threat and Georgia native touched on his recovery, current mindset and commitment status with the Seminoles.

SI All-American: We got to see you working out some, squatting a lot of weight, that has to be a great feeling for you coming off of the knee injury.

Mascoe: Yes sir! Our team did max squat today and I did 405 (pounds) six times.

SIAA: What does that mean given your last six months?

CM: Honestly, it means a lot. I have been through a lot in the last year, now I'm doing things normally and it looks good. It's just a blessing. It means a whole lot.

SIAA: Does it make each day feel more important knowing things can change so quickly?

CM: Every day feels a lot more important. I know last year, there was a whole bunch of time that I missed. There were so many things I felt like I could have done, but I didn't do it. So now I'm going to take advantage of everything that I have and that I can get. Because last year, I missed it a lot, I'm not gonna lie.

SIAA: What did you learn about yourself as a quarterback during that time? On and off the field.

CM: I learned that I can learn a lot by not just playing, but being on the sidelines. I learned a lot from (2021 IMG quarterback) DJ (Boney), from our coaches. I saw a whole bunch last year, I learned a while lot.

SIAA: So what does the 2020 season look like to you?

CM: Shoot, best year ever. I feel like it will be. I feel great.

SIAA: Recruiting-wise, is everything still the same with the FSU commitment?

CM: Everything is still good with them. They're always telling me they need me in their program and they they're going to do a lot with the offense. I know they have a very high-tempo, explosive offense and I'm looking forward to FSU scoring a whole bunch of points this year.

SIAA: How do you feel about the commitment and the new staff right now?

CM: I won't say I'm all in but I feel pretty good. I just need to speak to them more. I feel like I haven't talked to them enough yet. (Willie) Taggart and his staff, I talked to them a lot. I haven't really stayed in touch with Coach (Mike) Norvell as much yet. I'm not really sure about it but I'm still committed.

SIAA: What programs have been consistent with you despite your commitment?

CM: Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech. I'm probably going to visit Georgia and Tennessee but I don't really have anything planned yet. I wanted to get to Tallahassee during spring break.
