Drafted as a starting pitcher or designated hitter, Angels Shohei Ohtani will help fantasy baseball players win their league in 2020.

When Shohei Ohtani bursted onto the MLB scene in 2018, fantasy baseball players found themselves a mini-cheat code. Not only did he have a great season batting but he was a solid pitcher in ten games too. But Ohtani didn’t pitch at all in 2019 but still had a solid season from the plate.

According to the latest Average Draft Position data, Ohtani is the 11th designated hitter coming off the board and the 36th starting pitcher. Check out the video for Sports Illustrated’s Shawn Childs 2020 fantasy baseball analysis for Ohtani.Read the transcript from the conversation below:

Corey Parson: Major League Baseball season could be on the return and means fantasy baseball will be back also. Joining me to help talk fantasy baseball is SI's fantasy and gambling analyst Shawn Childs. Shawn, when you look at Shohei Ohtani, what do you think his role is going to be this season and how should you draft him?

Shawn Childs: Most people are kind of interested in how he's going to perform on the pitching side while understanding what his possible opportunity will be as far as a hitter. But for me, I think his impact value is going be on the pitching inside. He gets the extra couple of months to get healthy after having Tommy John surgery 18 months ago. The extra time almost assures that he'll be in the starting rotation when the season comes on. They'll start, you know, once a week, most likely. Probably pushed a little further into September if the Angels can hang around the hunt. But he's an impact arm, his fastball is upper 90s. He's got a plus split-finger fastball plus slider. And he can strike out a lot of guys and with the shortened season. He's gonna be able to be 80, 85 percent of the top arms win games to strike. It's gonna be there. And you have the hitting on the bone, especially in the daily leagues. In the high stakes market, we get to set the lineups twice. So if he gets a bounced in the rotation on a weekend, you can always start him for a half a week. But he's electric. He has upside. He's a guy that's probably fallen in a very favorable point, ADP, at 131. So I'm very attracted to his pitching side where most are looking. You know, what is he going to do on the hitting side?
