ROCHESTER, N.Y. — There’s almost too much to see when you attend a major championship. Whether you’re trying to catch your favorite player, get familiarized with all 18 holes or seek out the best grandstand viewing area on the course, it often feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all.

But every fan who finds themselves on the grounds of a major venue should make it a priority to do one thing: visit the merch tent. Buying something for a family member that is jealous at home or picking out an item to add to a long-standing collection of your own will help you remember the experience for years to come.

This week, we took a look at the merchandise offerings at the 2023 PGA Championship, the second major of the year in men’s professional golf. Oak Hill Country Club is the host, just four years after restorations. A logo that combines the PGA of America’s recognizable font and Oak Hill’s beloved acorn logo adorn polos, hoodies, hats, headcovers and even oversized Styrofoam golf balls.

Our favorite items ranged from a FootJoy polo shirt decked out with a Wanamaker trophy print to a reversible New Era bucket hat with a wild golf-course pattern on one side and an understated single-stripe on the other. Camo print seemed to be a trend for clothing items and a fun textured crewneck from the Nike women’s section stood out.

The hat wall mostly featured the classic “PGA” logo but there were a few hidden gems. If you’re looking for a smaller, more low-key logoed cap, look out for two designs: the hand-stitched acorn and a stand-alone Wanamaker trophy patch. Both come in white and navy blue, and they’re the perfect option for those who prefer the “if you know, you know” look.

The accessory selection was also impressive, with acorn-adorned socks and a Rochester, N.Y.-themed blade putter as items that immediately caught our attention. Of course, a classic selection of ball markers, golf balls, bag towels and umbrellas is available as well.

After you peruse the Oak Hill merchandise, however, there’s one more stop you must make: In the back right corner of the tent there is a Ryder Cup booth that features embroidered gear for Marco Simone Country Club, where the event will be held this coming September.

With excellent variety, bold patterned clothing and a stellar logo to work with, we can verify that the 2023 PGA Championship merch tent is worth a visit.
