EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Robert Battle's touchdown pass to Rico Bond with 6 minutes 37 seconds helped East St. Louis defeat visiting St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) 13-7 on Saturday night at the Gateway Scholars Football Classic.
East St. Louis (1-1), ranked third in the SBLive Illinois Power 25 football rankings after its 36-33 season-opening loss to Mount Carmel, used a late defensive stand to hand St. Frances Academy its third loss in three weeks.
The Panthers, who went 9-1 a year ago, opened the season at No. 4 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 preseason national high school football rankings.
