Michigan high school Athlete of the Week

Karter Schmitt, Ogemaw Heights

Senior running back Karter Schmitt finished with four rushing touchdowns, which came all in the first half, as Ogemaw Heights knocked off Flint Powers Catholic, 47-9. 

Jackson Reisbig, Lowell

Senior quarterback Jackson Reisbig rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns while completing seven of his eight passes as Lowell defeated Byron Center, 38-28. 

Jayden Terry, Grandville

Sophomore running back Jayden Terry continues to establish his dominance as he led Grandville in a 41-31 win over West Ottawa. Terry finished with 279 rushing yards on 29 attempts, with four rushing touchdowns. 

Griffin Bowman, Clarkson

Sophomore Griffin Bowman rushed for three touchdowns as Clarkston knocked off West Bloomfield, 44-36. 

J.T. Webber, Grand Blanc

Senior wide receiver J.T. Webber was electric for Grand Blanc in their 44-26 win over Lapeer. Webber finished the game with six receptions, for 128 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns, while also rushing for 106 yards on six carries, with one rushing touchdown. 

Conner Temple, Eisenhower

Junior wide receiver Conner Temple had a great performance for Eisenhower as they edged Anchor Bay, 15-9. Temple finished the game with seven receptions for 126 receiving yards. 

Grant Hetherton, Brighton

Senior quarterback Grant Hetherton put on a show for Brighton in their win against Canton, 55-26. Hetherton totaled six touchdowns as he threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns, while adding three more on the ground.

Jayden McCarthy, Stoney Creek

Senior Jayden McCarthy had a spectacular performance despite Stoney Creek’s 38-28 loss to Oxford. McCarthy completed 10 of his 19 passes for 167 passing yards, all while rushing for 90 yards on 28 attempts, totaling four rushing touchdowns. 

Brian Booms, Flat Rock

Senior running back had a generational performance for Flat Rock in their 49-21 win over Milan. Booms rushed for six touchdowns, setting a school record, with 78 rushing yards. 

David Osagiede, St. Clair Shores Lakeview

Osagiede blocked two kicks on special teams that helped St. Clair Shores Lakeview defeated L'Anse Creuse. He also recorded 15 tackles. 

Bryce Underwood, Belleville

For the second consecutive week, top rated quarterback in the country for class of 2025 Bryce Underwood continues to shine. Underwood totaled four touchdowns in Belleville’s 35-8 win over John Glenn. 

Jalen Brown, Midland

The running back rushed 35 times and ran for 286 yards, and he scored three touchdowns. Midland defeated Traverse City West 35-14.

Jon Jasionowski, Livonia Franklin

The running back finished with 22 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-21 win over Livonia Stevenson.

Brady Hamby, Macomb Dakota

Hambry was a menace on both sides of the ball. As a quarterback, Hamby rushed 28 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Cougars on defense in a win over Romeo.

DeShaun Lanier, Chippewa Valley

Lanier caught three touchdown passes in a 38-21 win over Sterling Heights Stevenson.

Izzy Busignani, Marian

In girls volleyball, junior outside hitter Izzy Busignani had a great performance on Wednesday as Marian defeated St. Ursula Academy, 3-2. Busignani finished the match with 21 kills, 13 digs, three aces, and one block. 

Jenna Southland, Three Rivers

Senior Jenna Southland showed out with her performance against St. Joseph as Three Rivers won, 3-0. Southland finished with 23 kills, two digs, two blocks, and two aces. 

Kayla Nwabueze, Bloomfield Hills

Sophomore Kayla Nwabueze notched a double-double in Bloomfield Hills’ 3-1 win over Detroit Country Day. Nwabueze finished with 17 kills, 10 digs, six aces, one block, and two assists. 

Alex Moeller, Forest Hills Central

In boys soccer, senior Alex Moeller had a great performance for Forest Hills Central in their win over Greenville. Moeller notched a hat trick and one assist in their 8-0 win on Tuesday night. 

Tekalegn Vlasma, Western Michigan Christian

Junior Tekalegn Vlasma notched a hat trick with three goals on Tuesday in Western Michigan Christian’s 11-0 over Wellspring Prep.
